A film that will document the process of getting the Waterbury-based Golden Years Theatre Company’s production of “Peter Pan” to the stage last summer already has been recognized for its promise.
The film titled “Golden Years” has been named one of the “Hot Films in the Making,” a distinction for projects that, while just missing the finalist list for the Roy W. Dean Grant, stand out for their “exceptional promise, compelling narratives and unique creative visions,” according to press materials for the project.
The selections for this season include documentary features, fiction features, short films, and web series.
“With each grant, we are amazed by the exceptional quality of the films and the incredible talent of the filmmakers chosen as ‘Hot Films in the Making,’” said Carole Joyce, director of the Roy W. Dean Grants. “These projects showcase extraordinary creativity, originality and passion. We are excited to see how these gifted filmmakers bring their visions to life.”
The musical “Peter Pan” was performed by a cast made up of senior citizens ages 60 to 80 under the direction of Bob Tansley. Broadway actress Brooke Tansley, the daughter of Bob and his wife, Diane, spearheaded the making of the film.
Golden Years also recently announced auditions for this summer’s production of the musical “Oliver.”
Auditions and sign-ups for the show are slated for March 18 and 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crosby High School on Pierpont Road, Waterbury, with possible callbacks March 25. This production will be the third musical presented by the company for seniors.
Tansley, who once again will direct the seniors, said, “Everyone is accepted into the cast. It doesn’t matter if you can’t sing or dance, or if you are wheelchair-bound, you are in. It’s all about having fun.”
Senior actors that want to be part of the ensemble and do not want to audition may just stop in to sign up, or may email Tansley at bobtansley1949@gmail.com.
Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. (sharp) starting March 25. Show dates are June 20-22 and 27-29 at Crosby.
