“The Fox on the Fairway”- Music Theatre of CT
By Marlene S. Gaylinn
MTC Co-Founders Kevin Connors and Jim Schilling chose Ken Ludwig’s funny, fast-paced farce in order to brighten our current anxieties and they certainly succeeded.
The action takes place at a country club that glamorous Missy Dowse (“Pamela”) and handsome Josh Powell (“Bingham”) are having a hard time managing. Along comes the pretentious Sean Hannon (“Dickie”) who bets Bingham that his rival club will win the upcoming golf tournament.
Bingham recruits his newly employed “Justin” (Ted Gibson) to be on his club’s team while Erin M. Williams plays Justin’s on and off engaged girlfriend (“Louise”). And then, there’s the formidable Anette Michelle Sanders (“Muriel”) who tries to restore order while golf balls are hit, doors slam, phones ring and public announcements create mayhem.
Non-stop antics by these crazy cast of character actors are delightfully directed by Amy Griffin and dressed in elegant and zany costumes by Diane Vanderkroef. We don’t know for sure where the array of amusing, golf-sweaters really came from but they are a show in themselves.
A perfectly timed reprise set to the exciting, “William Tell Overture” exhibits the smooth agility of the actors. All told, the staunchest theatre-goer will be forced to laugh and you will too.
