Christmas music from the Broadway stage is spotlighted on Sounds of Broadway (SoundsofBroadway.com), the 24/7 online Broadway radio station, this Thursday, December 24 from 5:00-9:00PM and a double dose on Christmas Day from 8:00AM – 3:30PM.
“There will be music from dozens of musicals,” stated Stuart Brown, creator and programmer of the station. “Such well-known shows as White Christmas, Annie, Rent, and Billy Elliot will be represented, but there will also be songs from lesser known musicals such as Jollyana, Flahooley, and Greenwillow. Greenwillow was written by Frank Loesser who also wrote Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
According to Brown, who serves as President of the Connecticut Critics Circle, Christmas is the number one holiday presented on the musical theater stage. Songs on the holiday special will include classic Christmas tunes as “Pine Cones and Holly Berries,” from the musical Here’s Love; “We Need A Little Christmas,” from Mame; “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” from Meet Me in St. Louis; and “Be A Santa,” from Subways are for Sleeping. In addition to Christmas songs there will be a smattering of Hanukah songs from musicals. “Even though Hanukah concluded the previous week I still wanted to include songs in this holiday program.”
Sounds of Broadway (SoundsofBroadway.com) offers the most wide-ranging listing of music from the Off-Broadway, Broadway, and London stages.
