Following UCONN, Church worked for Norman Rockwell’s Famous Artists’ Schools in Westport, Connecticut, eventually being promoted to managing editor of its art magazine with a world-wide circulation of 100,000 copies. He worked closely with Rockwell twice a year on art competitions for such national companies as Ford Motors – Ford Times, and the Celanese corporation of Switzerland.
He later moved to Puerto Rico where he wrote travel for the Caribbean Sun supplement of the San Juan Star, a then Scripps-Howard publication.
On returning to Connecticut, he wrote the national newsletter for Treadway Inns & Hotels as well as other business writing for large hotel-management companies. This led to an invitation to be a guest lecturer at the University of New Haven’s School of Hotel Management.
Returning to journalism, he became publisher and editor of Closet Light, a gay and lesbian publication based in New London, Connecticut. During this time he accepted an offer to become the Connecticut correspondent for Boston-based In newsweekly, the largest gay and lesbian weekly distributed throughout New England. He primarily covered legislative sessions, politics and civil rights, in addition to occasional theater reviews and celebrity interviews.
Concurrently, he wrote travel stories for Metroline and the first seven cover stories for QTMagazine.com which shares content with dozens major gay and lesbian Web sites. According to the respective publishers’ advertising stats more than a million viewers viewers visit these sites a month.
He and Tony Schillaci, also a CCC member, have been collaborating and filing travel stories, theater reviews, and celebrity interviews from all around the world for the past nine years.
